New Tricks!

Weston now has two teeth (both bottom middle teeth) and has learned how to bite with them.  Those little things are sharp!  He also waves Bye-Bye, loves swimming and the slippy slide, and can take a step or two before falling down (you have to steady him before letting go though, he hasnt gotten the concept that you have to have both feet facing forward and not stand on your toes yet.)  The camera is dead at the moment or else I would upload video and pics for the following things:  He has learned how to be a toughy.  If you tell him to be a toughy he clenches his little fists into balls, tightens all his upper body muscles, grits his teeth (or gums) and shakes going eeerrrrr!  He is so funny.  Speaking of funny, if you happen to be around him with Brock or Nick tell them to get him to 'be funny.'  He will do a silly little laugh for you.  Any time he hears music or you tell him to wiggle, he is a wiggle-ing fool, Soooo Cute!!!!  He is absolutely going to hate it when the older kids at daycare go back to school because all he has to do is cry until he gets one of them to take him outside, he is an outside kid!  For sure!

Oh well, We tried

Well I said I would keep you updated on the sleep training so: . . . The week after we had it down Weston got a really high temperature.  It was so high that we ran him to the ER at 2:30 in the morning.  I had been battling it all day but it hadnt ever gotten over 101.6 or so and the time that it did that day, I gave him more motrin and it went back down.  That night however he went to sleep and temp went down to normal, 2 a.m. I woke up because I must have touched him and felt how hot he was.  So up we got, gave him some motrin and it went down a bit, 15 mins later I checked it again and it was up even higher.  So we said this is it, and took him to Grandpa for a blessing and then to the ER.  They just said keep doing what we were doing, and sent us back home.  Better safe then sorry though....  Every since then I either have to rock him to sleep or sometimes I get lucky and can just hold his hand or rub his back while he lays in his crib and I sing him to sleep or tell him a story.  The story worked tonight.... so guess we will try something different this time around.  Dont know what just yet, maybe just keep trying to let him know I am in the room but each night get a bit farther away.  Who knows....

CIO sleep training - not what I thought

So... I've always been against the CIO (cry it out) sleep training....until now.  Last night I was curious as to whether Weston was ready to start putting himself to sleep or not.  So last night we went through the usual routine until the whole falling asleep part, instead of rocking and singing him to sleep I laid him in his crib, sang him a song, turned on his mobile and told him to watch the froggies dance to the music.  Told him "night night baby, I love you.  Sweet dreams" just like every other night.  I then gave him Spot (his puppy) and covered him up and kissed him goodnight.  I put the crib side up and walked out, shutting the door to a crack behind me.
Oh it was HORRIBLE!  Seriously!  I wasn't about to wait out the full half hour, no way!  Just at the time I couldn't take it anymore was the time Travis cracked as well so I went in and picked him up and soothed him.  I put his head on my shoulder, gave him his binky and he was out.  I gave him a few more kisses and bid him goodnight once again and as I laid him down, he started to stir.  He opened his eyes the slightest bit then grabbed spot, rolled onto his side, and the binky slowly slid out of his mouth, which meant once again he was out but this time for the night.  Literally the night, he didn't wake up until 6:45 instead of the 2 times he usually wakes at 1 and 4.  Today for his afternoon nap I decided to try it and if he didn't go to sleep in the first ten minutes then that was it, no more.  However to my greatest surprise... he was asleep in eight minutes, EIGHT minutes!  So tonight I tried it again and he was out in SEVEN minutes!  I never thought it would work this well, I just thought hey, someone I know did it and it worked for them so I will try it for a few nights and see.... IT WORKED!  WOW!  I'll let you know if it stops working ....... :)

Puh Poo

So... we were over at Grandma and Grandpa's on Sunday and.... Grandpa was saying 'well he could have a sip of my caffiene free pepsi once in a while' and Grandma said no that it still has lots of sugar.  He then came back with asking if the purple laffy taffy she gave him the other day had sugar in it then.....
So I look at Weston and say "Purple!?" (meaning: I dont like grape) I said it a few times as if shocked and  he looked back at me and says "Pur poo"  We just kind of looked at him for a minute and then laughed and for the next 5 minutes or so we were all saying purple in an attempt to get him to say it again.  The best we got out of him was "Puh, puh" from him watching grandpa and learning how to move his mouth to make that sound.
I agree with Grandma though, Purple is not supposed to be a little boy's first word!  :)

Great Grandpa Jones

On the way back home Monday we were able to go and see where the cemetary is that Great Grandpa Jones is in.  Weston was asleep in the baby go so he was there but didnt get to see the beautiful view that surrounds the little sanctuary.  Here is a picture and our little contribution since we didnt have any flowers then.  Since its to small to read, it says: Great Grandpa Jones Here is a flower we send to you, to let you know we all love you.  And we put a little flower in the corner for him.

Camping!!!!!

So Travis' family has a tradition that no matter what the weather is (snow, rain, and occasionally sunny) they camp out Memorial Weekend Friday through Monday.  It is always such a blast!  This year was my fourth time to be a part of the fun.  Unfortunatly it was raining all Friday so we just went up until bedtime.  Travis had to work Saturday morning so it was best for him and Weston....so... Saturday morning I headed up with Naomi and Sarah.  Fishing opened up Saturday morning as well and as expected of a loving father, Travis wanted to be the first to take his little boy fishing or show him his first fish, so we had to wait till daddy got off of work to go fishing.  We had to entertain babies in grandma and grandpa's camper while it was raining.... most of the morning Saturday.  They kept the bed layed out so they could crawl and we would put coats and hats and shoes on him to go outside.  2 weekends prior to camping we had all gone up and taken Granpa Schmitt's old camper up to save our spot.  I ended up cleaning that out and plugging up the drains with plastic bags so that the hornets couldnt get us, and we slept in there... he had the furnace on so why put all that propane to waste right?  :)

Fishy Fishy Fishy - EEEEEWWWW!

Travis finally got off of work and was able to take Weston fishing.... of course boys will be boys and he put it straight in his mouth!  Then they wanted to 'make it look like he was putting it in his mouth for a picture since we didnt get a picture of it the first time.... ya, you tell me if this isnt in his mouth as the on lookers claimed :)  We did however get a little video of him the first time he touched a fish though... here it is, enjoy!

SUCKER!!!!

He finally got to try a sucker!  At first he wasn't so sure about it, but then you couldn't take it away from him - haha!
